Setting up your TheNextBus
Setup happens in a browser tab — there's nothing to install. Use Google Chrome or Microsoft Edge; Web Serial (the technology that talks to the device over USB) isn't supported in Safari or Firefox.
1. Connect over USB
Plug the device into your computer with a USB cable, then open the configurator in Chrome or Edge. The browser will ask for permission to talk to the device — one click, no software to install.
2. Add your WiFi details
Enter your home WiFi name and password in the configurator. The device stores them securely and joins your network.
3. Pick your stops
Search for up to two bus stops by name, then choose the route for each one. The configurator looks these up directly from TfL, so you can search by stop name or nearby street.
4. You're set
The device reboots onto your WiFi and starts showing live arrivals. To change a stop, route, or brightness later, you can reconnect over the same WiFi network — no cable needed.
The online configurator isn't live yet. For now, setup uses the configurator app directly from the project — join the waitlist and we'll let you know as soon as the hosted version and checkout are ready.
